Kylie Jenner's Designer Reveals How Travis Scott Influenced How She Decorated Their 'Family Home'

The makeup mogul and the rapper have been dating since April 2017 and share one-year-old daughter Stormi

Kylie Jenner took her boyfriend’s style into consideration when decorating her Hidden Hills, Calif. mansion, her designer reveals.

Even though the makeup mogul loves pink, her designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard tells PEOPLE she didn’t want to make her home so girly that it wouldn’t be comfortable for her beau, Travis Scott.

“She loves pink, so we wanted to do layers of pink,” Bullard says. “But it wasn’t overly feminine because she wants to make sure the man in her life enjoys it as well.”

Despite the fact that Kylie began designing the home when she was just newly dating Scott, and before they welcomed one-year-old daughter Stormi Webster, the rapper has spaces in the house that he can call his own.

“He spends a lot of time at the house and has his own closet there,” Bullard says. “The design was obviously for Kylie but it’s done in a way to really be a family home.”

“They’re incredibly loving together. It’s really quite beautiful,” he adds. “Obviously, they’re very young, but to see this young family that actually has this real connection even though they’re both unbelievably in the public eye, it’s kind of wonderful because I think they’ve found somewhat of a sanctuary in each other.”

Initially, Jenner wanted to make the home a sophisticated adult house that met her lifestyle needs, so Bullard began drawing up design plans for her glam room, home office and a makeup room where she films her famous tutorials. The designer, who met Kylie through her mom Kris Jenner, also wanted to be sure that she had a space to throw her epic parties and dinners.

“When you’re that famous, it’s hard to go out casually, so she tends to entertain a lot at home,” Bullard says.

“She’s a creative girl and she loves to play with her creativity in so many ways,” he adds. “Lots of these themed parties and things are an element of inspiration for her. She’ll come up with ideas and do a fun dinner around it and next thing you know she’s also incorporated that into a new makeup line.”

But three months into the project, Jenner revealed to Bullard she was secretly pregnant, so they had to overhaul some aspects of the design to make the home more family oriented, which included adding a nursery and a playroom.

“It was really about creating a space that was able to accommodate all of her needs and have fun with her friends like her fabulous bar room that’s got a big billiard table and game machines and a wonderful seating area for adult time,” Bullard says. “But we also created kid time and made sure we had a beautiful playroom and nursery. It was really her first grown up home.”

However, that didn’t stop her from wanting to add some playful elements to the home such as condom-themed artwork and Barbie prints mixed in with more sophisticated pieces like Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Jean-Michel Basquiat works.

“It’s youthful. She’s only 21,” Bullard says. “We wanted to make sure the house was young and fresh.”

“The wonderful thing with Kylie is she knows how to take a joke and she can laugh at herself,” he continues. “She’s a really switched on, cool girl. At this point, she’s not only a style icon with fashion and her incredible makeup empire but now also she’s become a style icon for her interior design.”
