All About Khloé Kardashian's $8,500 Balloon Display for Daughter True's Birthday: A Cost Breakdown

Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson reunited to celebrate their daughter's big day

True Thompson first birthday balloon display was anything but a bust!

Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson’s daughter celebrated the big 1 with an elaborate party full of unicorns, butterflies and yes, balloons! But True’s decorations were far from the typical helium-filled affair. Massive, organically shaped displays of pastel balloons in a rainbow of hues flowed throughout the outdoor setting — and the over-the-top display came with an equally sizable price tag.

All About Balloons CEO Caity Byrne, who has created balloon displays for the White House during the Obama Administration, tells PEOPLE the whimsical display that was set up throughout True’s party likely cost around $8,500 in total.

“An installation of that size takes balloons in all of those colors in 5 different sizes of each,” Byrne explains.

According to Byrne, the massive backdrop that flowed down an exterior wall at the party likely involved between 1,200 and 2,000 individual balloons, while the arch that framed the dessert table was made of 200 to 300 more.

She estimates that the balloons used were from a new matte pastel line, meaning that they did not have to double stuff balloons (a common practice in the world of high-end party decor) to get the exact shades of blue, pink and yellow they wanted. Had they double stuffed them — meaning they put other balloons inside of each other to maximize color saturation — their arrangement would have cost closer to $15,000, Byrne says.

Kardashian and Thompson also set up butterfly decorations (including some on the balloons!) and cotton-candy vendors at the outdoor party. Their daughter’s birthday marked the first time the pair were seen together since news of his cheating scandal involving Jordyn Woods.

Kardashian enlisted the help of Wild Child Party and her family’s go-to event planner Mindy Weiss to help with the decor. Weiss also orchestrated Khloe’s sister Kim Kardashian West and her husband Kanye West’s spectacular Christmas party, which was estimated to have cost around $1.3 million to pull off.

Khloe raved about the party on Instagram, writing, “True turns ONE! After my baby shower, I didn’t think we could ever top such a dream like party but with the help of @wildchildparty and @mindyweiss we did! Look at these pastel gorgeous balloons! And the sweet butterflies on top…. oh My!! Thank you so much for turning my vision into reality, love is in the details.”

True’s older cousins, including Kylie Jenner’s daughter Stormi, 14 months, and Kim’s children Chicago, 15 months, and North, 5½, were also there, with the latter two outfitted for the event in matching orange feather dresses. The older daughter of Kim and Kanye even wore her mom’s high heels!

“Peep North’s shoes. She would not walk out of the house without my shoes,” Kim, 38, said on her Instagram Story.

Other fun details at the magical bash included a dreamy dessert table, toddler-friendly play equipment and “unicorns” with colorful horns and pink manes that younger guests could ride around the event.
