Kardashian Hairstylist Jen Atkin Shows Off Her Sleek Home Makeover: 'It's Very Exciting and Emotional'
Jen Atkin's 'Emotional' Home Makeover
Celebrity hair stylist Jen Atkin shed her fair share of tears while renovating her home in Los Angeles, but the stress was worth well worth it. “We were thrilled!” the maneaddicts.com founder says of seeing her spaces finally finished. “We’ve put so much work into this house, and to see it finally presented as a livable space — it’s very exciting and emotional."
Although she gives credit to her director and photographer husband Mike Rosenthal for keeping her vision on track, it was decorating site AllModern and interior designer to the stars Mat Sanders of Consort Design who brought her “minimal, clean, warm” aesthetic to life. “This was our first massive renovation, and the whole process has been fantastic,” she says. “Definitely time and attention consuming, but very gratifying and fulfilling.”
The couple travels often, so they stole “the spoils and tricks” of hotels as inspiration for their master suite. “Our bedroom is heaven,” says Atkin, who counts Chrissy Teigen, Olivia Culpo and several Kardashians as clients. “Our bed is a great mix of low and modern without being too cold or hard.”
A nook nestled in the corner provides an extra area to relax, while plush pillows and blankets amp up the cozy factor. "The armchair also complements the bed perfectly," she says.
“The great room has such good energy, we spend a lot of time in there,” Atkin says. The design process can be challenging for some couples, but for Atkin and Rosenthal, it was seamless. “We definitely see eye-to-eye on most things,” she says. “The big decisions were actually very easy.”
Living Room Highlights
The gray armchairs are a favorite piece for Atkin. “They are even more comfortable in person than they appear,” she admits.
All in the Details
Consort integrated Atkin and Rosenthal’s vibe through little moments that make a big impact. “Mike has a really great eye, and Jen is so bubbly and vivacious that we relied on interesting vessels and trinkets and dishes to communicate their personalities,” says.
AllModern barstools top Sanders' favorites list. “They provide a white on white moment, but the lines are classic so they break up the space, adding character to what could have been a potentially sterile, all-white, modern kitchen,” he says.
Light Filled Dining Room
“Big windows,” skylights and good window shades were a few must-haves on Atkin’s list. The dining room checks those boxes with floor-to-ceiling windows that welcome lots of light.
Although the bones are in place, Atkins admits her home is still in a growing phase. “To be honest we’re still getting everything where it needs to be,” she admits. “It’s a work in progress.”
