Buying a sofa can trigger some major commitment issues.
Finding a couch that is comfortable, fits your measurements, and suits everyone in the house’s style is like trying to find a Unicorn Frappuccino: pretty much impossible. And once you do discover a seating option that fits your checklist, you still have to embark on the make-believe game of imagining how it will look in your space. Luckily, Houzz might have just solved the worst of furniture shopping woes.
The home design site just released a new feature for their iPhone and iPad app that allows you to test out any of the 300,000 furniture pieces within the context of your own room.
FROM COINAGE: Ask Yourself These Questions Before You Buy A Home
From any product page, simply click on the “View in My Room 3D” button and watch as the app opens a camera and superimposes the object of into your room. You can relocate, rotate and scale accordingly so you can see how that sectional truly looks in your home. If you’re looking to make a big change, you can also add multiple products to the screen to see how the look fits together.
The new function is the product of augmented reality technology and the insight of Houzz professionals like co-founder and president Alon Cohen, who said in a release the site is trying “to make the home improvement and design experience more fun and productive.” Check out the demo video above to see how it works.
