The El Moussas at Home
Flip or Flop's Christina and Tarek El Moussa originally decorated their home in an earthy palette of beiges and browns, but switched to a different aesthetic in the middle of renovating their 7-bedroom, 9-bathroom home in Yorba Linda, California. "As it started, I was like, 'I just love gray, black and white,' and I really wanted to move forward with that look," Christina, 33, tells PEOPLE. "So we just ended up clearing everything out and starting fresh." Everything except the pool room, which kept the original rustic feel. "It's different from the rest of the house, but it works because it's a man's room," says Christina. "I don't use this room!"
Rustic Pool Room
"I play quite a bit of pool here," says Tarek, 35, who notes that the wrought-iron details, fireplace frame and lighting were all custom made for the room. "Pretty much all of this house was custom made. It took a long time!"
"This is our dream yard that we've been talking about for 10 years," says Tarek. To bring their vision to life, the El Moussas changed everything except the shell of the pool the house came with, and added in pool lights, a rock climbing wall, grotto, waterslide and waterfalls.
Modern Dining Room
"I'm obsessed with crystal lighting and always have been," says Christina, talking about why it was essential to incorporate the ornate chandelier into their formal eating space. "The main thing in here was incorporating rustic with the rock wall to give it an outdoor rugged vibe, and [combine it with] over-the-top, girly lighting," she continues. "I personally love the 'rustic glam' look."
A Place to Play
"I like golf, and the kids [son Brayden, 1 and daughter Taylor, 6] love to play back there because it's like miniature golf, so it's kind of two for one," says Tarek.
"It just has a clean, contemporary look," says Christina of their sleek kitchen, which features dark cabinets, marble countertops and a chandelier, of course. "We tried to choose some elements that are timeless."
Functional Family Room
"Something really important to me is a big, comfortable couch everyone can crash out on, so that's why I had this sofa made," says Christina. Not only is it comfortable, but it's kid-friendly as well. "The fabric is durable, so Brayden can dump a bottle on it and it's cleanable."
