Fredrik Eklund Admits It was 'A Little Scary' to Renovate Homes with Bethenny Frankel
Tour the space the Bravo stars designed together for their new series, Bethenny & Fredrik
Fredrik Eklund may take on house hunting titans on his show Million Dollar Listing New York, but there’s one mighty mogul he had hesitations about teaming up with: his friend Bethenny Frankel.
“I always say she has the special sauce, she makes s**t happen,” the new dad tells PEOPLE of The Real Housewives of New York City star. “That can be amazing to watch. But when you’re a business partner with somebody like that, it’s a little scary. Very exciting and a lot of fun, but a little scary, too.”
The dynamic Bravo duo recently joined forces to renovate luxury apartments in Manhattan for their series Bethenny & Fredrik, and are finally ready to reveal their first attempt, seen below. Despite Eklund’s concerns — some valid, as the rocky first trailer proves — the two were able to design a stunning home and have a little fun along the way.
“She certainly brings out the big clumsy idiot in me,” Eklund says.
Frankel adds, “He has a wacky sense of humor on his show, and I have sort of a biting, sarcastic sense of humor on my show, but together it becomes sort of slapstick. It’s a different type of buddy comedy.”
The proprerty they renovated together, now listed for $4.5 million, includes stunning features like high ceilings the size of “three Fredriks,” custom touches like a wall-to-wall headboard, and A-list amenities, including a gym and dry cleaners. While they agree it’s far from “cookie-cutter,” the reality stars have a slightly different idea as to who their ideal buyer is.
“I mean Fredrik thinks there are princesses growing on trees,” Frankel says, adding that she imagines, “A wealthy couple who might have a house somewhere else but want a pied-à-terre in New York,” would call it home. Eklund, however, stays adamant on his vision.
“I’ve sold to princess before,” he says.
Frankel reveals she held the purse strings pretty tight to keep Eklund’s penchant for luxury under control. There is one feature, though, that Frankel happily budged on: a heated toilet for the master bath.
“She became obsessed, she did not want to leave. Her a** got so hot and we were laughing so hard,” Eklund says. “But you thought $2,600 was actually so worth it.”
Frankel responds, “To have a hot a**? One hundred percent.”
Bethenny & Fredrik premieres February 6th at 10:00 p.m. EST on Bravo.
