WATCH: DJ Khaled Wanted to 'Glorify His Sneakers,' So He Built Them Their Own Room
“Follow me through the journey of more success to my sneaker room,” proclaims DJ Khaled.
Leading PEOPLE on an exclusive tour through his Miami mansion, the larger-than-life DJ, record label exec and Snapchat star talks “passion, pain and success,” checks on his beloved flower garden, and has a full-on Belle moment showing off his footwear collection from a red, rolling ladder in his towering shoe closet.
Of the soaring space and its highly regarded contents, Khaled, 40, explains, “I love my sneaker room. Every sneaker in here has a certain moment for me in my career. There’s so many vibes.” Among his favorites are an array of Air Jordans, “classic Yeezys,” Reeboks signed by Jay Z, and slides from Khaled’s We the Best store, featuring his oft-recited slogans “Bless Up” and “Another One.”
Heading outdoors, Khaled — who will release his ninth album, Major Key, on July 29 — highlights his plants (“They’re my angels.”) and stone statuary (“The lion keeps me focused, and also he’s a protector.”) The waterfront property also boasts a hot tub, fire pit and bamboo grove. “At night time, when the wind is blowing, the bamboo makes its own music,” Khaled explains of the zen vibe. His mindful backyard practices also include regular meditation and massages.
The tour’s last stop: a swaying palm. “In the morning I climb the tree and I get fresh coconuts,” he deadpans, before cordially kicking out the cameras.
