From Creepy Seat-Mates to Broken Toilets, 9 Celeb Travel Nightmares That Prove You Can Survive Anything This Holiday Season
Jenny Slate Sat Next to a Man Who Was Writing 'Hardcore Erotica'
Slate and her fiancé, Ben Shattuck, thought they were going to be the annoying row-mates when they brought pungent banh mi sandwiches to eat on a plane, but their fellow traveler really outdid them. "There was a lovely elderly man in the aisle seat, fiancé was in the middle, I was [on the other end]," she explained on The Late Late Show. "My fiancé says to the man, 'Sir, we are going to open these sandwiches now, and they're going to be stinky. And this angelic man is like, 'Okay, I understand that.'"
The pair proceeded to chow down, but then Shattuck made a gruesome discovery. "My fiancé [nudges me] … and I looked over and the man had his laptop open, and he was straight-up on the flight writing hardcore erotica," she said. "I looked over and it was like, 'I stroked my' — you guys know what it is — 'under the desk as my secretary came in.'"
Ryan Reynolds Got High-Fived by a Man Whose Wife Was Violently Ill
"The plane hadn't yet taken off and the woman who had just gotten married, just became violently and horribly ill on the plane," Reynolds recounted on The Graham Norton Show. "I mean, it wasn't a pretty little sick bag kind of thing. It was just like, 'I'm going to paint with my organs.'"
"People were freaking out all over the plane. So they brought a stretcher down and they put her on the stretcher and they're wheeling her away, and her new husband is just kind of cruising along with the thing and he sees me and he's like, 'Deadpool! No way! High-five!'" Reynolds continued.
The star wasn't exactly excited to make physical contact in the middle of a health crisis. "I'm like I don't wanna — like, what has she got? He's like, let's touch eyeballs!" he joked. "I was like 'No! No! And by the way, your wife is like half dead. Help her, man!'"
Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher's RV Broke Down on Their Honeymoon
Kunis granted husband Ashton Kutcher's wish that they spend their honeymoon driving around in an RV — and her then-10-month-old baby and in-laws came along for the ride. "We're in our little, like, tin can on wheels and my in-laws are in what my husband coined as the 'Taj Mahal of RVs,’" Kunis said on The Tonight Show.
"Eight hours into our RV trip, our air conditioner breaks in Bakersfield in 110-degree weather," she continued, adding that the misfortune struck around midnight.
Things didn't get any better from there: "We almost died on the side of the road when Apple Maps took us on a road — it wasn't a road — it was a fire road on the side of a mountain. We all had to jump out of the vehicle and walk for, like, three miles while my father-in-law drove the van and Ashton navigated him over gigantic boulders because there had just been a massive flood."
Luke Evans Was Stuck in an Airport for Six Hours
The Welsh actor was stuck in an Atlanta airport for six hours because of snow delays, he told PEOPLE.
"It wasn't the most pleasant way to start my holiday season," he said. But, Evans was able to entertain himself by having a cold one and snapping some creative selfies.
"I was just watching the snow fall and having a Stella Artois," the beer brand ambassador recalled. (He also teamed up with the brand to make sure others got an upgrade during holiday travel season and didn’t face a similar fate.) "I took some abstract pictures of the lounge, took selfies, and did a lot of FaceTime chatting to friends and family."
Chrissy Teigen & John Legend's Plan Turned Around Mid-flight
The power couple spent over 8 hours trapped on an All Nippon Airways Tokyo-bound flight in 2017 before they landed where they first began: Los Angeles. The plane made a U-turn 4 hours into the 11-hour trip after discovering that one of its 226 passengers had boarded the wrong flight.
“A flying first for me . . . we are turning around because we have a passenger who isn’t supposed to be on this plane. Why…why do we all gotta go back, I do not know,” Teigen shared in a series of live tweets detailing her journey.
Andy Cohen's Plane Had a Broken Toilet
The Watch What Happens Live host found himself in a similar situation to Teigen and Legend in August, when his Delta Airlines flight to Nice, France, had to turn around midway due to a broken toilet after leaving New York’s J.F.K. Airport.
Cohen and good friend Bruce Bozzi documented the entire incident on his Instagram Stories as the Real Housewives executive producer told followers, “How’s this? We were two hours outside of Europe, somebody pooped or put something down the toilet that didn’t go and broke the toilets. We had to turn around to fix the f— toilet.”
Cohen jokingly added: “To the person on the Delta flight to Nice that put a foreign object down the toilet … tell me who you are because we’re going to find you … I think they should sacrifice themselves at the beginning of the flight.”
Hayden Panettiere's Daughter Peed All Over a Plane Bathroom
“Aaaand then ur daughter pees on the floor of the airplane bathroom,” Panettiere wrote on Twitter, sharing a photo of her and Kaya crouched down in the tiny space with paper towels.
Bella Hadid, Bella Thorne and Gregg Sulkin's Plan Crashed Into a Fence
In 2015, the actress was traveling with her then-boyfriend, Gregg Sulkin, and model Bella Hadid when the trio’s plane seemingly taxied into a fence, causing a 12-hour delay.
“A model, my handsome boy, and the freak in the middle … Hmm,” Thorne captioned a shot of the three of them reclining in large arm chairs while striking goofy poses. “What to do when your plane crashes into a fenced wall and you have 12 hours to kill at the airport?”
Chris Hemsworth Took a 30-hour 'Flight From Hell' with Three Kids
Hemsworth opened up to Ellen Degeneres in 2015 about a disasterous 30-hour flight from Australia to London — with all three of his kids in tow.
"It was kinda like the trip from hell," the Australian actor said. "They were all sick and literally took it in turns to scream. Like one would kind of do it and look over and say, 'I’m done you want a turn?' And the whole cabin...wanted to kick us off."
