These Celebs Are Taking Social Distancing Literally by Going Off the Grid
When it comes to keeping a safe social distance, these celebrities are going far, far away from civilization
The Canadian model is social distancing on her 6-acre Vancouver Island property, according to The New York Times. Anderson bought the property, which is on the water in a small town in British Columbia, from her grandmother Marjorie, The New York Times reports.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' Family
The family was on a trip together when ABC instructed them to shelter in place, a source tells PEOPLE.
Ripa discussed their decision during a virtual townhall on Thursday with ABC employees moderated by Sandy Kenyon.
"We had planned a trip for our family, and it was supposed to be our entire family of course," said Ripa, according to a source at the town hall. "And we arrive and three days later, the entire world changed, really. I mean, everything shut down; the government shut down; our country shut down. I hate to use the word stuck, but we were. We decided to stay where we were."
Ripa has been remotely filming episodes of Live with Kelly and Ryan since late March as the show's New York City studio has been shut down in order to abide by social distancing guidelines.
Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers
The Call My By Your Name actor, his wife Elizabeth and their two children are self-quarantining in the Cayman Islands.
Elizabeth revealed the news in an Instagram post which showed her wearing a mask as she ventured out of their home to buy groceries for the family.
“Left home yesterday for the first time in almost a month for our second grocery run and the experience was drastically different than before,” she wrote in the caption.
The mother of two explained the family of four had not planned to stay in the Cayman Islands, located in the Caribbean Sea, but due to the growing number of coronavirus cases throughout the world and their own plans to return to the islands, later on, the two decided to stay. (Armie’s family moved to the Cayman Islands when he was 7 where they lived for five years.)
“We’re currently quarantined in the Caymans, which wasn’t planned when we left LA 5 weeks ago for nyc for previews of @minutesbway,” Elizabeth wrote. “Due to travel restrictions, school closures and the fact that we were planning to be here with our extended family two weeks later for spring break, we made this decision for the health and safety of our family. But none of that is the point…I just know this is a very sensitive time and emotions are heightened, so felt the need to explain.”
Laich, who's married to Julianne Hough, is not social distancing with his wife. Instead, Hough is staying at their home in Los Angeles, while Laich is “living the simple life in nature, which makes him happy,” a source told PEOPLE. According to his past Instagram Stories, Laich is in Idaho; he has been posting photos showing off the snowy location in the woods with the couple’s husky dog, Koda.
“Their marriage is not perfect, but they continue to work on it,” the source said. “They speak all the time. Brooks is coming back to L.A. once the stay-home order is lifted.”
Bruce Willis, Demi Moore & Family
Kelly Clarkson & Family
The talk show is living rustic with her husband, Brandon Blackstock; their kids, River Rose, 5, and Remington Alexander, 3; and her step-kids Seth, 13, and Savannah, 18 (though Clarkson says Savannah “usually isn’t with us”).
Clarkson showed her fans her "cozy" one-room Montana Cabin on The Kelly Clarkson Show, which she is filming remotely.
According to the singer, she and Blackstock purchased the property, which they’ve named “Vintage Valley,” about 18 months ago, after searching for a place that would remind them of their upbringing. Both grew up in Texas and according to Clarkson, “love wide open spaces.”
They've got cattle and horses on the property and plenty of s'mores! She said this is the first time they've gotten to experience the ranch in the winter. She added, “It’s a really beautiful ranch and it’s a nice getaway for our family. It’s something Brandon and I have dreamed about since we were both kids. This is what we would call home.”
Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel & Son Silas
The singer posted an idyllic photo of wife Biel and their dog in the snowy mountains of Montana.
"Out here social distancing with the fam and a lot of these 🌲🌲🌲," Timberlake wrote on Instagram. He added, "I hope you guys are staying safe and healthy."
Kelly is getting in some quality time away from the noise, too! She wrote on Instagram, "Snowy morning where we are & kids are distance learning. Think our dog Thunder & six-year-old Thatcher would rather be playing outside."
Kelly shares three kids, Yardley, Yates and Thatcher, with her husband, Doug Brunt.
The actor spent the first three weeks of social distancing "deep in the woods."
He told The Moms during a virtual event, "We spent the first three weeks in Minnesota at my cabin deep in the woods. All we did was chop wood and spraywash things and clear brush and all those things that you do to get ready for spring." He added, "Although we knew what was going on around the world, it was a nice departure, a nice distraction from what we're dealing with here in L.A. now."
