When Shahs of Sunset‘s Reza Farahan was first approached by Bravo about starring in a new real estate show on the network his first thought was “Hello, it’s about time!”

Yours, Mine or Ours, which will premiere on October 3 with back-to-back episodes, pits prominent real estate agent Farahan against interior design expert Taylor Spellman. Their goal in each 30-minute episode is the same: to get a couple who wants to move in together under the same roof. Spellman, who boasts clients like Million Dollar Listing: New York‘s Ryan Serhant, provides remodeling ideas that would allow the clients to remain in one of their current homes, while Farahan shows the lovebirds properties they can buy together for a fresh start.

Although it’s a far cry from Shahs, Farahan, 43, tells PEOPLE he’s happy to highlight this different aspect of his life.

Shahs of Sunset is not a real estate–related show, and there is a lot of drama around it. A majority of my clients don’t want to participate in that, which I have to respect and understand,” he says. “So, Yours, Mine or Ours offers some of my fans the opportunity to see me doing what I do every day and what I love.”

While there can only be one winner on each episode, Farahan says there really aren’t any sore losers on the show.

“I live my life like a competition,” he explains. “I’m always waking up thinking I’m going to get voted off the island. But the one fantastic thing abut Yours, Mine or Ours is that regardless of who ‘wins,’ everyone wins, because the couple ultimately ends up under one roof or in a happier, healthier, more productive living situation.”

Farahan also expresses his appreciation that, unlike some real estate series, the show will feature a wide range of cities, styles, and price points.

“[It] represents any and every American. It could be your neighbor, it could be your relative,” he says. “Taylor has all these really great ideas that are going to come up that a lot of people are going to be able to use and benefit from.”

As for his personal life, Farahan who recently married Adam Neely in a surprise wedding on Shahs, is undergoing a little Yours, Mine or Ours situation of his own.

“Adam and I own three homes right now,” Farahan says with a laugh. “Adam is very Gemini-sentimental about things, he has a hard time letting go of things like inanimate objects that are special to him, so he wants to keep the place that we live in now. So we’re probably going to sell the other two.”
