Best Paint Picks
Behr recently announced their 2017 color trends, and the predictions are a mix of bright and bold and surprisingly soft shades. Presented in three themes — Comfortable, Composed and Confident — each is drawn from the latest looks around the world. “The collection is influenced by a variety of sources, including the runways of fashion week, upcoming home décor collections, foreign marketplaces, haute cuisine and overarching lifestyle themes,” Erika Woelfel, Vice President of Color and Creative Services at Behr tells PEOPLE. Keep reading to see three of the pretty palettes — plus ways you can integrate the colors into your own home.
It’s all about the aqua for the Composed palette. Earth-inspired shades and jewel tones take center stage for a luxe yet contemporary feel. Woelfel gives great advice for integrating this look into you own spaces: “If people are nervous about adding multiple colors, they should start small and try using varying shades of the same color,” she says.
Duel-tone accent pieces are a low-risk way to try the trends in your home. A table lamp featuring an aqua base with a sand-colored shade makes for a modern look.
Rest Your Feet
Paired with other neutral furnishings — or other bright blues! — this teal ottoman adds an elegance to any room.
An abstract print is a simple yet stunning way to draw in these watery shades.
Pops of Pastel
The Comfortable theme features soft colors that can brighten a small space and enliven neutral surroundings. “I like to think of color as a sense of its own,” Woelfel says. “This is because the hues that surround us each day have subtle, but incredible power over our mood.”
Wispy Window Treatments
Ikat curtains in a soft gray can add subtle pattern to any space without weighing it down.
Pink accent chairs pull in a rosy shade, and add a pop of color that doesn’t go overboard.
Accent rugs are a great place to play with pattern. This geometric version matches the Comfortable palette perfectly!
The Confident palette is more adventurous, featuring lush jade, dusky blue and citrusy shades. But Woelfel doesn’t want you to shy away from giving these bold looks a try. “It’s important to remember that it’s just paint!” she says. “If a color you used to love isn’t working anymore, choose something new and start fresh — that’s the fun part.”
A simple accent piece, like this ombre vase is an effortless way to seamlessly integrate the palette without totally committing.
Sleep in Style
This deep gray bedding instantly modernizes any space and leaves plenty of room to play with color elsewhere.
A fun patterned pillow can add a little something extra to any neutral scheme.
