In Honor of Joanna Gaines' 40th Birthday, Here Are 5 Reasons We're Forever Obsessed with the Fixer Upper Star

Happy birthday Joanna Gaines!

Everyone’s favorite farmhouse-style decorator is celebrating her 40th year of life today — as if we needed another reason to share our obsession. Between her adorable family (which is about to grow by one!), addictive shows, and ultimate #couplegoals with husband, Chip, the HGTV-watching world is constantly finding a reason to be even more in love with the star. Here, a few of our favorite Jo moments that prove she’s so much more than shiplap.

1. When she and Chip were just the cutest.

Although they had a bit of a rocky start to their first date, the two are now the most adorable TV couple around. “Match made in heaven is not the term you would use to describe us,” Joanna told PEOPLE in 2016. “But when we mixed our personalities together, it created a spark.”

2. When she was almost as goofy as her husband.

Although she takes her decorating very seriously, Joanna’s not afraid to have a little fun. The proof: this stylish selfie where she so generously thanks Chip for the “hair help.”

3. When she gave us the chances to get her look for ourselves

Between her Target line, paint, wallpaper, rugs and magazine, Joanna is dedicated to giving her fans opportunities to get her coveted style at home.

4. When she revealed she’s (almost) as messy as the rest of us.

A hallway littered with laundry reminds us all that Joanna is in fact human (but her stunning laundry room still gives us a reason to be jealous).

5. When she put her family before fame.

Spending more time with her children, Joanna says, was the main reason she and chip decided to end their hit series after it’s fifth season.

“They’re so young and we want to give them the chance to have a normal childhood,” she told PEOPLE of her four children, Drake, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie, 7 (plus one on the way!).

She adds, “We really want to focus on this break and take a step back to let this all soak in. Regardless of what the future holds, we are hopeful for what God has for us and our family in this next season.”
