According to BuzzFeed News, Koby Soto was dumped over the phone on Saturday at around noon. Throughout the day, he was having trouble studying or sleeping. When he opened his Fitbit to prove his emotional stress to a friend, the heart rate tracker backed up his claim. Before Soto’s boyfriend called, his heart rate was 72 beats per minute and after the breakup, his heart rate shot up to 88 beats per minute and even reached just below 118. Soto, 28, says he found comfort in seeing the data in front of him. “People become less cynical once you show them the numbers or once you show the data or graphs,” he told Buzzfeed. “Everyone understands heartbreak, right? Everyone’s felt it. When you have this, it’s interesting – you have something to show.” The startup founder then decided to share a screenshot of the heart-wrenching chart, which has since went viral with over 1,700 retweets and 2,000 likes. And since his breakup, Soto wants his concerned followers to know he’s doing alright – and his heart rate has presumably leveled out. “My post being viral is a little scary & embarrassing, yet funny,” he tweeted on Thursday. “Thx for all the support and hugs. You are fabulous, and I am very much ok!”
