Rene Russo not only costars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in their new thriller Nightcrawler – the 60-year-old actress also happens to share a very scandalous scene with Gyllenhaal, who is 27 years her junior.

“It’s kind of wild – you wouldn’t expect it,” Russo, 60, told PEOPLE at the film’s New York premiere on Monday, adding that the two definitely had some “wild chemistry Oh yeah, absolutely.”

So how does Russo, who has been looking as flawless as ever on the red carpet, maintain her timeless looks both onscreen and off?

“I work out every day, but not like a maniac. Just 20 minutes on that damn bike, do some light weights, and that’s it and I’ve gotta move on,” she says.

She also remembers to stick to some basic rules. “Smoking is not a good thing, and neither is drinking too much,” she says.

But she also isn’t afraid to depend on another age-defying secret.

“They have amazing lasers to keep your skin nice, so I do laser treatments, which I love,” she says. “And then it’s like, don’t mess with yourself too much, you know?”
