Anderson says that she never expected the magazine to ask her to pose for them again, but they came calling. “I got a call from [Hugh Hefner’s] attorney who said, ‘We don’t want anybody else. There’s nobody else, could you do the last cover of Playboy?'” she told Entertainment Tonight. Anderson said she’s grateful to Hefner for requesting her for this historic issue because she’s recently dealt with body doubts. “I had a rough few years where I felt a little insecure, ’cause you know everyone’s getting older,” Anderson says. “I thought, ‘My gosh, I miss the Playboy days.’ It was so glamorous, it was so chivalrous, there’s so many people there that were so smart, and activism, and art. You know, I just kind of miss that whole crowd and us being these little giggling girls kind of running around the mansion half naked and trying to get everybody’s attention.” RELATED VIDEO: Pamela Anderson Tells PEOPLE: Tommy Lee Was the Love of My Life But the former Baywatch star was initially hesitant out of concern for her two sons, who used to get teased for her fame. But after talking to her older son, Brandon, 19, she agreed. “I said, ‘Hef just called, he wants me to do the last cover of Playboy,’ and he goes, ‘Mom you’ve got to do it,’ ” she says. And Brandon explained to her, ” ‘We’re older, we’re not embarrassed anymore of you. You know, we think you’re great.’ ” Anderson announced at the beginning of November that she was finally cured of Hepatitis C, and told PEOPLE exclusively that she feels like she has a new lease on life. “It has been 20 years … and I always felt this little dark cloud hanging over me,” she said. “I think anyone struggling with a disease that they say you can live with is still it still plays into a lot of your decisions in your life.”
