My 600-Lb. Life Star Sean Milliken Is Dead at Age 29
Sean Milliken, a star of TLC’s My 600-Lb. Life, has died at age 29, PEOPLE confirms.
Milliken died on Sunday of complications from an infection, his father, Matt Milliken, wrote in a Facebook post, according to TMZ.
“Sunday he was having problems with his breathing, they were able to resuscitate him and a short time later his heart stopped,” Matt said, according to the outlet.
Sean first appeared on My 600-Lb. Life in 2016, when he was bedridden and weighed around 900 lbs. He and his mother, Renee, moved to Houston so he could get weight loss surgery.
Sean explains in the episode that his weight gain started because of his difficult relationship with his father, who used to back him into a corner and yell into his face.
“It was scary. So I would eat. And suddenly I felt a lot better,” Sean said. “In that moment, nothing else mattered.”
Renee and Matt divorced when Sean was 10 years old, but she thought that it may have made his problems worse.
“I realized it wasn’t healthy for Sean to stay around his father,” Renee says. “But the divorce really had a hard affect on Sean, it really bothered him.”
Sean successfully dropped 400 lbs. through weight loss surgery, but his mom died in 2017, and he struggled in the aftermath.
“A couple of months ago my mom went to the hospital because she wasn’t feeling well, and she just kept getting worse,” Sean said in an episode of My 600-Lb. Life: Where Are They Now? from summer 2018. “They said she had renal failure, and she didn’t make it. She passed away a couple weeks ago and I’m devastated, and I don’t know what to do now because my mom was everything to me.”
TLC said in a statement that they were “saddened” to learn of Sean’s death.
“TLC expresses its deepest sympathies to Sean’s friends and family at this difficult time.”
