5 'AH-MAZING!' Things We Learned from Oprah's Private Weight Watchers Q&A (She Doesn't Have a Goal Weight!)
Oprah Winfrey‘s hour-long private Q&A session with her fellow Weight Watchers members was filled with life-changing advice, honest inspiration and huge laughs, as Winfrey opened up about her weight loss struggles and successes.
In her trademark relatable manner, Winfrey, 61, talked potato chips, downward facing dogs and more – here are the five biggest things we learned from the talk show queen:
1. She doesn’t have a goal weight in mind
Winfrey hasn’t revealed her weight loss goal yet because she isn’t setting one, she says. “I don’t have a goal in mind, I’ll know what it is when I get there,” Winfrey said Wednesday night. It’s likely because of her new mindset that this isn’t a diet, but a change for life. “Every other time I’ve ever gone on a diet, I’ve gone on a diet and then gone off the diet,” she explained. “Because now I’ve gotten to the weight I’ve wanted to be. The difference is I’ve made the shift and this is the way I’m going to live for the rest of my life.”
2. She’s learned self-restraint around food – even her beloved potatoes
“I have been controlled by potatoes for 40 years,” Winfrey admitted. “Any kind of fried potato, baked potato, scalloped potato – oh my god.”
And when she was able to eat just ten of her favorite greasy, crinkle-cut snack the other day, it was a huge victory – bigger than her many Emmy wins, Winfrey joked.

“Of all the accomplishments that made in the world, all the red carpets, and the awards and those things that I’ve done,” Winfrey says, laughing. “The fact that I could close the bag and not take another chip – it’s major for me.”
3. She understands what it feels like to stand frustrated in the closet, surrounded by clothes that no longer fit
While others criticized Winfrey’s first Weight Watchers commercial, arguing that she doesn’t actually know the pain of being unable to lose weight, Winfrey proved that she knows the ups and downs extremely well.
“None of the people who were upset are the people who have actually felt and experienced what it felt like to be burdened by the weight,” she said.
“None of those people had stood in their closets with three different sizes to try on on the floor, where the waistline didn’t fit and the arms didn’t fit, and the hips didn’t fit, and you can’t get it zipped, and felt that shame and that humiliation of ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m in this position again.’ ”
4. She’s been too self-conscious to go to yoga class – until now
“Up until now I was embarrassed to go to yoga class because I was falling over myself with the downward facing dog, so I’ve been secretly training myself every night with the yoga studio app, I think it’s by Gaiam,” she says. “I’ve been working out with my little yoga girl until I feel like I can go to class with out falling over and embarrassing myself, so I’m going to do that.”
5. She’ll take alcohol over pastries any day!
When Winfrey had 18 family members and friends over for the holidays, she hired a pastry chef to whip up fresh Cronuts, croissants and sticky buns every morning. But while her BFF (and fellow Weight Watcher) Gayle King went for it and indulged, Winfrey saved her points for something with more of a kick.
“Gayle was there, and she was like, ‘I’m having a Cronut,’ and I was like, ‘It’s not worth the points,’ ” Winfrey recalled. “And she was like, ‘I’m having the Cronut, and then I have 7 points left for the whole day.’ ”
“I said I’d rather have a margarita!”
