Who Tried It: Marquaysa Battle, PEOPLE intern

Starbucks seems to be running through the rainbow.

After starting the week off by introducing the vibrant orange and purple drinks, the coffee chain added two more hues to its colorful secret drink menu: blue and green. The “blue drink” is comprised of passion iced tea with soy milk and vanilla syrup, while the “green drink” is made with black tea, matcha and coconut milk. As a Starbucks super fan, I decided to brave the brain freeze and taste-test the new splashy beverages.

“How do you know to order that?” the barista asked, more out of curiosity than suspicion. I wanted to come up with a super cool answer, but told her the truth: “Everyone’s been talking about it.” I figured “everyone” encompassed devout Instagram foodies and the Starbucks Secret Menu Twitter page. The barista nodded and punched in my order.

My green drink came first. Coconut milk thickens it a bit, but it’s very subtle in taste while the black tea is the most prevalent flavor. The drink is minimally sweet—just perfect for those who want a summer drink that isn’t overly saccharine.

It turns out the blue drink and purple drink are pretty much the same. The only difference is the blackberries. Here’s a tip: If your Starbucks barista is as generous as mine, and you really prefer that blue hue? Be sure to remind her not to drop the fruit in. The beverage had a light, sweet taste though the vanilla sauce was lost in the berry flavor.

And now I can finally cross the Starbucks secret menu off of my summer to-do list.
