Just when you thought Starbucks had tapped out on new cold beverages for the summer, they go and change the game in a big way.
On Tuesday, the Seattle-based coffee chain announced a new drink to cool you down and wake you up — and it’s served on tap. Called the Nitro Cold Brew, the drink consists of cold brew coffee that is infused with nitrogen for “a smooth and creamy sweetness.”
“It almost comes out like a Guinness beer,” the company’s CEO Howard Schultz told CNN. “These are craft products, not dissimilar to the trend of craft beer.”
Indeed, nitrogen-infused coffee has been popping up in smaller coffee shops and bars across the country, and this move represents a major mainstream spotlight on the trend. As of now, though, the drink will only be available in 500 stores across major cities like Seattle, Portland, New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
But that’s not all: Starbucks also announced the debut of another new beverage, the Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, which is available across the U.S. and Canada starting Tuesday. Post-Memorial Day blues, be gone!
