The chocolatey drink is the latest addition to the coffee chain’s menu, joined by the returning S’mores Frappuccino. Both drinks are available starting May 2 and aim to capture the essence of summer.
“We started by thinking of the heydays of summer,” a member of the Starbucks beverage development team, Jennica Robinson, said in a statement. “We were inspired by thoughts of dark starry nights, looking up at the sky with a cool summer breeze.”
The new beverage is made up of “scoops of extra-dark cocoa blended with coffee, milk and ice, infused with cooling mint sugar crystals and cut with a layer of whipped cream. It is then topped with more whipped cream and a dusting of dark cocoa,” reads the release.
The minty frappuccino is sure to come in handy during the dog days of summer. “Mint is instantly cooling,” added another member of the beverage development team. “It contrasts with the dark cocoa and whipped cream for a balanced, refreshing beverage.”

But if mint just isn’t your thing, the fan-favorite S’mores Frappuccino is still the ultimate summer-time drink. It’s made up of marshmallow-infused whipped cream, milk chocolate sauce and an icy blend of coffee and milk, topped with crunchy graham cracker crumble.
