She is the shining green symbol of Big Caffeine, yet so omnipresent that our subconscious sometimes renders her invisible: We’re talking, of course, about the Starbucks mermaid.

But a Korean artist named Soo Min Kim is changing the way we look at the Siren, as she’s officially called, by re-imagining her in a host of new identities that include Thomas the Tank Engine, a 3D moviegoer and even all four Beatles members (shown above).

We’re loving how this rendering of mermaid-as-office-worker reminds us of an old-school flip book:

His process is simple, but kind of genius: He paints over the cup in white, but leaves key original details of his muse’s face and (sometimes) hair. Then he adds his own doodles with a green marker. Watch him create an ode to “Gangnam Style” in this video:

Check out more of his art below, as well as on his Facebook page. We’re betting that the next time you grab your Pumpkin Spice Latte, you’ll have a newfound fondness for that Mona Lisa–esque lady smiling back at you.
