Sofia Vergara makes looking like a smoking hot goddess completely effortless. But as it turns out, she is a mere mortal when it comes to dreading the gym.

In her June Redbook cover story, the Hot Pursuit actress, 42, revealed her honest feelings about gearing up for a sweat session.

“I hate it!” Vergara told the magazine. “I’m in a bad mood two hours before and while I’m doing it and then I’m done, because I know I have to come back and do it again.”

And the Modern Family star can’t exactly relate to those fitness fanatics who seem to smile right on through a grueling workout.

She continued, “I’m always asking [my fiancé Joe Manganiello], ‘Why do people always say they feel great working out?’ I just want to go home and lie down.”

She may complain about pulling on her gym clothes, but once she gets going, Vergara is dedicated to her fitness routine. She admits to being a total Pilates convert, and even has a Megaformer machine at home!

“We work out at least five times a week for 50 minutes to an hour, depending on her schedule,” her trainer Jennifer Yates, founder of Studio Metamorphosis, told PEOPLE in September.

The engaged actress — whose soon-to-be hubby, Magic Mike XXL actor Manganiello, is also a gym regular — prefers her workout to be bootylicious.

“She loves working the butt,” Yates added. “We do a lot of squats and deadlifts and lunges [on the Megaformer], and we do a lot of things off the machine as well. Recently we’ve been combining some of the heavier weights for the lower body because she’s trying to put a little more mass on, so we’ve been doing a lot of work with kettle bells. She’s really strong!”
