Over the past few days, McDonald’s Shamrock Shakes — those minty, creamy ice confections that have earned an impressive cult following — have been spotted in stores around the country. The green shakes always come out a few weeks before St. Patrick’s Day, though we’re still not sure why they aren’t served year ’round. Just as Pumpkin Spice Lattes mark the beginning fall, Shamrock Shakes mark the (almost) beginning of spring. The drink is so beloved that Burger King launched a knock-off version of their own this year: the Oreo Irish Mint Shake.
