Oprah Winfrey Thought Avocados Were Too Expensive So She Bought an Orchard: 'It Was Ridiculous to Pay for Avocados!'

In a new interview, Oprah Winfrey said that she brings her own avocados wherever she travels

Oprah Winfrey thinks that avocados are too expensive — so she bought her own orchard.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, the television mogul, 65, shared her love for avocados after host Trevor Noah asked her what parts of her glamorous life are still “normal.”

“I will tell you several things, very normal. I travel with my own bread and I bring my own avocados,” she said, before adding, “I have an avocado orchard.”

“The story got not normal, Oprah!” Noah, 35, interjected.

Responded Winfrey: “I think it’s ridiculous to pay for avocados!”

“Which is why you bought your own orchard? Are you kidding me? That is not a normal story! ‘I make my own avocados because they’re too expensive,'” Noah laughed.

In 2017, Winfrey revealed to PEOPLE that some of her favorite breads come from The Model Bakery. “My greatest extravagance is flying in English muffins from Napa Valley,” Winfrey told PEOPLE during The Jess Cagle Interview. “There’s a specific English muffin made by these two women at this wonderful bakery in Napa Valley. I know it’s not a good carbon footprint to fly in your English muffins but…” A dozen muffins and a jar of preserves costs $40.

Winfrey has shared glimpses of her orchard on social media in the past. In 2013, she posted a photo with a basket of avocados and a bowl of figs, captioning the image, “Today’s special. avocados #greatguacamole and figs. Gonna chop the figs and cook in oatmeal #delicious #harvestday.”

In 2015, she shared another photo of her posing with a basket of avocados, writing, “First rose in my garden this year. Signs of Spring. New beginnings.”

Winfrey shared more of her “normal” habits during the interview, including that she always washes her own underwear.

“The one thing I will not do is send my underwear out to be washed or cleaned. You know why? Because it’s $5 for a pair of panties,” she told Noah, as the audience laughed.

One normal thing Winfrey never does? Change the toilet paper roll when it runs out. “In my house, the toilet roll is checked regularly and after you go into the bathroom, somebody will come in and fold it into a little triangle,” Winfrey said.

“Like in a hotel!” Noah laughed.
