Bridezillas of the world, listen up: Jamie Lynn Spears didn’t do a single tasting before commissioning her beautiful five-tiered wedding cake from Louisiana bakery The Cocoa Bean for her recent New Orleans nuptials.
“For the wedding consulation she was actually out of town,” says bakery owner Anthony Delpidio, who worked with Spears’ new husband, Jamie Watson, and her assistant to pick out the traditional vanilla, almond and vanilla-bean buttercream cake. “She sent a picture and said, ‘This is the idea I want. Just run with it and do your thing.'”
Since Spears has been a regular visitor at the bakery for years, “we know what she likes from us,” he tells PEOPLE. “She’s not a very tough customer. She’s very easygoing.”
The cake took eight hours to make, says Delpidio, who also created Watson’s groom’s cake.
“Jamie’s idea was to have his [duck-hunting] boat and his dog on there,” Delpidio says of the chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. “He sent me pictures of the boat and we worked off of that.”
Touches like 3-D fondant “weeds and swampgrass” and tan camouflage airbrushed on the boat ensured it was perfectly on point for the hunting theme — a playful contrast to Spears’ classic cake.
“I think she just wanted to keep it simple,” Delpidio says, adding that Spears’ 5-year-old daughter, Maddie, also weighed in with her opinions. “I do [Maddie’s] cakes all the time,” he says.
Sounds pretty sweet to us.
