The breakfast chain's annual Free Pancake Day is for a good cause this year.
Everyone’s favorite feel-good holiday is almost here—Free Pancake Day at IHOP, of course.
Back on Tuesday, March 12 for the 14th year in a row, IHOP will be giving away free short stacks of their original buttermilk pancakes from 7 am to 7 pm. The one-day-only annual event raises money for three children’s charities: Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Donations of all sizes will be collected throughout the day, building up to IHOP’s fundraising goal of $4 million. The breakfast chain decided to change the name of the holiday this year to “IHOP Free Pancake Day: Flip it Forward for Kids” to further emphasis their commitment to children’s health. All donations collected will stay local, benefiting kids in your own community.
In addition to free flapjacks, IHOP will also be whipping up some of their OREO Oh My Goodness pancakes, the winning recipe from this year’s IHOP Kid Chef Champion, 6-year-old Brody Simoncini.
Available now through April 14, Simoncini’s OREO Oh My Goodness recipe includes two buttermilk pancakes made with OREO cookie pieces, cupcake icing and whipped topping. Simoncini was born with a rare abdominal wall defect and has undergone multiple, life-saving surgeries, including an open-heart surgery and a medically-induced coma. After living off of a feeding tube and requiring therapy to learn how to eat on his own, OREOs were the first solid food Simoncini was given after he recovered. $1 of each OREO Oh My Goodness ordered will go to the Free Pancake Day charities in his honor.
