Summer just got a little cooler (and sweeter) for SoCal residents and tourists.
On July 15, Hello Kitty Café opened its pretty, pink doors in Orange County, California. The restaurant, located in the Irvine Spectrum Center’s Giant Wheel Court, is made out of a giant metal shipping container that opens up into a full-service, sit-down eatery. Though the company that produces the animation, Sanrio, has an official Sanrio Café located in Hawaii and a food truck that travels to various states —this is the very first restaurant in the States boasting all Hello Kitty everything. Basically, this means there’s more pink than the Mean Girls’ cafeteria table on Wednesdays.
The walk-up shop will offer sweet eats like pastry puffs, macaroons, layered vanilla bean birthday cake, cookies, pies and yes, Kitty’s favorite, apple pie—all of which are either topped with a red or pink bow if not baked in the shape of the character’s head. Guests may also down beverages like strawberry mint lemonade and iced teas in peach and passionfruit flavors.

The grand opening included giveaways (the first 100 guests received free Hello Kitty cup keychains with their purchases), an apparel pop-up shop in partnership with plus-size fashion retailer Torrid, and a visit from Hello Kitty herself.
But if you missed out on the festivities, then cheer up buttercup! The café will be open 7 days a week for an entire year, and the Hello Kitty food truck is headed to the east coast soon.
