What do Gigi Hadid and boyfriend Zayn Malik have in common (besides being really, really ridiculously good looking)? Cooking skills, it seems.

“We cook a lot together and do art together and we’re each other’s best friends,” the supermodel tells ES Magazine of their relationship in this week’s issue, out September 15th.

The former One Direction member’s home country of the U.K. influences his culinary chops – which has rubbed off on Hadid, too. “I’m getting super into British foods,” she said, adding that she loves baked beans for breakfast in the morning.

Malik’s specialties include Indian dishes which are also widely popular in Britain. “He makes a brilliant curry,” she said. “Butter chicken is his signature dish.”

Hadid herself has proven herself to be a talented cook as well, coming in first in the Masterchef Celebrity Showdown with a burger that chef Gordon Ramsay called “f—g delicious.”

It’s not just the food that gives her butterflies for Malik, though: What turns her on most is “his brain,” she told the magazine. “For the first time, we are both in a relationship where we have very similar interests outside of work and that is really important. We both feel we can talk about anything and learn a lot from one another.”

When it comes to dating, she and bestie Taylor Swift also have something in common. “I think we both like the British sense of charm,” Hadid said of the pop star, who recently ended her relationship with London-native Tom Hiddleston.

But despite being a member of one of the most notable celebrity squads in the business, the 21-year-old is still surprised by all the public attention. “Fame always shocks me,” she said. “Stuff that you didn’t think happens except in movies.”

Part of navigating this world for Hadid means relying on fellow celebrities for advice — hence, the squad. “The reason you become so close to people in the industry is that they understand what it is that you are experiencing. We all teach and learn from one another. If you have a question about privacy, for example, everyone is super helpful about it.”
