Georgetown Cupcake’s Chocolate ‘Cobweb’ Cupcakes

8 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
1¾ cups sugar
2 eggs
2¼ tsp. vanilla extract
1¼ cups milk
2½ cups all-purpose flour
2½ tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt
2 tsp. orange food coloring
½ cup chocolate chips
1 cup fudge topping

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Line two cupcake pans with baking cups.

2. Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar and beat 3 to 5 minutes more. Add eggs and mix in slowly.

3. In a small bowl, combine vanilla extract and milk.

4. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to butter mixture, a third at a time, mixing slowly after each addition. Add orange food coloring and chocolate chips, and mix until just combined.

5. Transfer batter to baking cups, so each is 2/3 full. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, then let cool completely.

6. Add fudge to a ziplock bag, and cut a small hole in the corner. Squeeze lines of fudge on each cupcake to create a web.

Tip! To make the web, pipe four intersecting lines of fudge: horizontal, vertical and two diagonals. Then connect all the lines with short, slightly curved strokes.
