Forget the Iowa caucus! The topic everyone should be talking about this morning is the Oreo cookie, because Nabisco just announced that it is releasing yet another new limited-edition flavor. And, without any interruption from Donald Trump, I can tell you that flavor is (drumroll, please) …. Filled Cupcake! We had a tip off that these might be coming back in October, but now it’s confirmed.
Oreo describes its latest creation as a “rich, chocolatey treat featuring a surprise dollop of creme filling wrapped into a crunchy cookie exterior.” In other words, it’s reminiscent of the cupcake made famous by a company whose name sounds like Mostess.
I had the pleasure of sampling a Filled Cupcake (or four) this morning at the Oreo Wonder Vault (yes, there’s a vault — more about that later), and while it didn’t taste exactly like a rhymes-with-Mostess, it was a chocolatey, creamy sandwich of deliciousness.
But back to the Oreo Wonder Vault. Unlike Al Capone’s vault, it did not disappoint. The first thing you notice is a giant-size Oreo cookie door, which I plan to install in the entrance of my apartment some day.
Open the door, and there’s a mini factory inside, complete with a lever and a conveyor belt. Once you pull the lever, images of the mystery-flavored cookie appear, and then — BAMMO! — a small box of the actual cookies make their way from the conveyor belt to your greedy, awaiting hands. Beats waiting in line to pay for them at the Stop & Shop, right?
The Oreo Wonder Vault is reportedly going on tour (may I suggest as the opening act for Adele?), so keep an eye out for it in your town. In the meantime, you can find Filled Cupcake Oreos at your local grocer when they hit shelves on Feb. 8.
