Duff recently told PEOPLE that her number one entertaining tip is one she learned from a Barefoot Contessa cookbook. “One thing that I’ve learned is to give people jobs so everyone is involved,” she said. “Not necessarily like a potluck — although I do that, too — if I’m serving dinner and making appetizers and stuff, when people are arriving I like to give them little jobs and I think everybody wants that. No one wants to sit there and feel useless so even if it’s like slicing up a cucumber or putting the crackers on a cheese plate or stirring the pot so it doesn’t burn, it’s actually really helpful and it brings everyone together.”

While the Parts Unknown host is not exactly known for heaping praise upon any Food Network stars, he generally makes an exception for Garten. “I’ll make a little fun of her now and then,” he recently admitted to Refinery 29, but “what she cooks on TV is legit and instructive. If you do as Ina does, chances are you are going to get a good product…I got real respect for her.”
