If you’ve ever burned the bottom of a batch of cookies, you’ve certainly felt the great shame and sadness that comes along with it. Blame the oven. Blame the pan. Blame the recipe. Blame the America’s Next Top Model marathon.

And while the automatic reaction is to throw them in the trash and start from scratch (or, even worse, go cookie-less), we’ve got a simple solution to save you in a pinch every time. Take the bottom of your cookies to a zester (you know, the one you use to grate cheese over pasta) and pass it over a few times. The black bits will fall off like bitter little snowflakes, leaving a deliciously crispy cookie behind.

If you don’t have a zester, a box grater will do the trick just as well — just scrape it over the smallest holes and you’re good to go. No one will ever be the wiser! Watch the video above to see exactly how it’s done then go live a free life without fear of the burn.
