Lemonade and Hot Sauce! Throw a Beyoncé-Themed Party with This Flawless Menu
On April 23, Beyoncé will debut her much-buzzed-about Lemonade special on HBO, and it's already poised to be at least the second-most Beyoncé thing to ever happen. While we still don't know exactly what is going on, when the Queen tells you to be somewhere, you show up with bells and whistles on. Get your party menu in formation with these Bey lyric-inspired foods. (Hint: A boozy lemonade is probably the most appropriate place to start.)
The Song: "Formation"
The Lyric: "I got hot sauce in my bag, swag"
The Recipe: A grown woman on-the-go always comes prepared, but these spicy-sweet snacks might not even need the extra heat you're packing. We'll let you be the judge of that, though.
CHEDDAR 'BEY' BISCUITS (A LA RED LOBSTER)
The Song: "Formation"
The Lyric: We can't repeat it here, but it involves rewarding, erm, good behavior with access to endless seafood platters.
The Recipe: Everyone knows the main reason to go to Red Lobster is the cheddar bay biscuits, and this version ups the ante by adding bacon. Driver, roll up the partition please…we're gonna need some alone time with these.
The Song: "Drunk in Love"
The Lyric: "I've been drinkin', watermelon"
The Recipe: These Triple Sec-spiked refreshers go down so easy, before you know it, you woke up in the kitchen saying…well, you know the rest. Consider yourself warned.
POUND CAKE TRIFLES
The Song: "Flawless (Remix)"
The Lyric: "These thots can't clock me nowadays/You wish I was your pound cake"
The Recipe: Using store-bought pound cake means you can prep this dessert faster than the time it takes to google "thot."
The Song: "Single Ladies"
The Lyric: "If you liked it then you should've put a ring on it"
The Recipe: This is what she was talking about, right?
The Song: "Blow"
The Lyric: "Can you lick my Skittles/That's the sweetest in the middle"
The Recipe: For the sake of not messing with a good thing, you can just toss a bag of Skittles in a bowl and call it a day. If this is the extent of your cooking skills, your party will still be a success.
TURKEY MEATBALL 'SWAGU'
The Lyric: "You a bad girl and your friends bad too/We got the swag sauce, she drippin' swagu"
The Recipe: Ragu, swagu…get it? None of us will ever look as #flawless in the kitchen as Bey does in this video, but it's good to have aspirations.
FIG JELLY GRILLED CHEESE
The Song: "Bootylicious"
The Lyric: "I don't think you're ready for this jelly"
The Recipe: We would be remiss to not acknowledge the anthem that transformed "jelly" from something you spread on your sandwiches to an expression of body positivity before the phrase "body positivity" was even a thing. Just a reminder that spreading it on your sandwiches is still awesome, though.
