Inside Bethenny Frankel's New Country Home
"All summer and all winter, anytime I have a free weekend, if I'm not traveling for work or have an obligation, I choose to be here," Manhattanite Bethenny Frankel tells PEOPLE about the five-bedroom Bridgehampton, New York, home she purchased in April. The Real Housewives of New York City star says her country house "represents peace and freedom."
"I take pride in my house but I'm not worried about people spilling stuff," Frankel, seated on her couch with dog Cookie, says of her relaxed home-keeping approach.
"Everybody knows that I'm just going to go in my fridge and clean out whatever is in there," Frankel says of cooking for her houseguests. "Last weekend it happened and I had arugula and spinach, so I made those as bases with avocado and tomato. Then there was a bunch of quinoa salad, some slaws that I doctored up with my own salad dressings, and I bought roast chickens to chop and put over it. Someone had sent me two boxes of Georgetown Cupcakes so I put those on decorative cupcake tiers."
Having space to entertain and relax offers Frankel a nice break from the craziness of city life. "In New York, you constantly have to go somewhere, do something, do an activity, go to the next thing," she tells PEOPLE. "It's nice not to have to go anywhere. I love making it more fun to be at home."
Frankel designed her backyard with good times in mind. "Everything out here lends itself to fun: making cocktails, being in your bar, s'mores, having a Slip'N Slide," she says. "The vibe here is fun."
STRUCTURED AND STYLISH
Frankel's hard-and-fast design rules? "Less is more," she tells PEOPLE. "Be organized, don't hoard. I have everything [labeled]. I am the most organized human being, everyone that works with me has caught the bug."
"Red is my color," Frankel says of the many like-colored pieces around her home. "I wouldn't do this in Manhattan, because it's a little chicer, but I didn't mind going over the top with it a little, because I think it's fun and happy and the color of luck and prosperity. It's very confident."
SOCIAL SKINNY GIRL
She may be away from the city, but Frankel's country life is just as lively: "I love to make cocktails. I love to cook. I have dance parties with my daughter," she tells PEOPLE. "I love having my mom friends with their kids, because I feel like I'm getting away with something. I'm being social, they're being social, everyone's happy."
SOAKING IT IN
"I like to nest and build and redo whatever I want and make it mine," Frankel says. "If I rent a place, I hardly want to put a picture up." The Bridghampton house, she says, is "the first real home I have ever had my whole entire life."
