If you see a massive line outside your local Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop, don’t be alarmed. April 9 is Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s locations around the world, and the $0 scoops will be flying.

An international holiday of sorts, Ben & Jerry’s has been putting on Free Cone Day since 1979—back when they were just one shop in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont—as a way to say thank you to their customers. The tradition lives on to this day, with over 1,000,000 scoops set to be given away across the planet.

Free Cone Day starts at 12 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m., and we suggest getting there early to secure your spot in line. The holiday will be celebrated at participating locations, and you can find the one closest to you here.

Can’t make it out on the 9th? Ben & Jerry’s has plenty of exciting new stuff out in grocery stores to indulge in, as well (though not free, but still cool). On April 3 they launched their newest innovation, Cookie Dough Chunks, created for people that wish they could set aside the ice cream and get straight to the chewy cookie dough.

In January they debuted three new ice cream pints stuffed with a cookie dough core: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Core, Sweet Like Sugar Cookie Dough Core and Wake & “No Bake” Cookie Dough Core.

Is chocolate chip cookie dough your favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavor? What about Chunky Monkey? The best part of Free Cone Day is you get to choose your scoop. Try something new or stick to your tried and true classic—either way, it’s totally free.
