Sugar and spiked and everything nice … I think that’s how the nursery rhyme goes, right?

If you want to shake things up on a birthday, make these cake-inspired milkshakes for a refreshing treat. I was inspired by the [premium title=”fun shakes at Mark Wahlberg’s Boston burger joint” url=”,,20711121,00.html”], Wahlburgers (cute name!). Flavors like apple a la mode and blueberry pie — count me in.

And with all the sweet flavored vodkas on the market these days, I couldn’t resist making my shakes with a boozy birthday twist. They’re incredibly easy and quick, too.

Start with premium vanilla ice cream — or chocolate or strawberry. Whichever you like best.

Add some cake-flavored vodka and blend. Not too much — but hey, it is a birthday!

Stir in some rainbow-colored jimmies (or sprinkles…no matter what you call them, they’re delicious) and you’re done!

Or are you? You can also make your milkshakes a little more festive by adding rainbow sprinkles to the rim of your glass. Just apply a thin layer of corn syrup to the rim and dip it into a plate or bowl full of sprinkles.

Party perfect.
