If you can’t swing a flight to New Orleans, Applebee’s is bringing a taste of Mardi Gras to your city this month.

This February, the restaurant chain is helping you gear up for the holiday by offering $1 Hurricanes as their newest Neighborhood Drink of the Month, saying goodbye to January’s $2 Captain and colas.

Mardi Gras, which falls on March 5 this year, is practically synonymous with cocktails, and none is more iconic than the red, rum-based beverage that originated at Pat O’Brien’s bar in New Orleans’ French Quarter.

Applebee’s take on the drink includes a fusion of rum, passion fruit, orange, black cherry and lime. Each Dollar Hurricane comes in a 10-ounce mug, topped with either a masked stirrer or decorative beads to really nail down the Mardi Gras theme.

“The Hurricane cocktail is a classic rum drink with close ties to New Orleans and Mardi Gras,” said Patrick Kirk, vice president of beverage innovation at Applebee’s. “A Dollar Hurricane is a great reason to celebrate the season and from now until March 5, Applebee’s is going to ‘party like it’s Mardi.’” That’s right, this Drink of the Month will extend into March so guests can still enjoy the deal on Mardi Gras itself.

Even though these dollar cocktails won’t break the bank, you might want to be a little cautious: They may taste and feel like a carnival in NOLA, but you’ll still be just as hungover in your own neighborhood.
