Anthony Bourdain Reveals Why He 'Never' Eats Airplane Food or Orders Room Service
You may think Anthony Bourdain is a man who’s seen it all, but there’s still at least one country he hasn’t crossed off his travel bucket list yet.
In an interview with Bon Appétit, the Parts Unknown host revealed the next travel destination he has his sights set on. “I’d like to go to Afghanistan,” he said. “I’m looking for a window where I can safely get in there with my crew. The north in particular is relatively safe.”

As for the city at the top of his travel recommendation list? Beirut. “The food’s delicious, the people are awesome. It’s a party town. And everything wrong with the world is there,” he said.
Never one to shy away from culinary opinions, Bourdain also let loose on the topics airplane food and room service. Spoiler alert: He doesn’t love them.
“No one has ever felt better after eating plane food,” he proclaimed. “I think people only eat it because they’re bored. I don’t eat on planes. I like to arrive hungry.”

He does make one small exception his far off travels, though. “For a super-long flight, I’d order cheese and s— load of port. I’d eat some cheese and drink myself stupid.”

And if you’re thinking about perusing the in-room dining options during your next hotel stay, Bourdain recommends you think twice.
“If you really want to send yourself into a tragic spiral of depression, call down for a room service hamburger when you’re alone in your room,” he said. “You will inevitably be disappointed and more than likely sent into a manic-depressive state for days.”
