Alex Rodriguez Stars Alongside Mr. Peanut in Super Bowl Ad: 'My Daughters Will Be Teasing Daddy'

A. Rod and Mr. Peanut hit this one out of the park.
The baseball star and beloved brand icon are both making their Super Bowl commercial debut next Sunday in an ad for Planters Peanuts. The spot, previewed above, shows “just how far Mr. Peanut is willing to go to give fans a reliably crunchy and satisfying salty snack that delivers on their cravings in their greatest moment of need,” according to a release. And from what Alex Rodriguez told PEOPLE, the process was a blast.
“I’m so excited and thrilled to be a part of this,” he said. “It’s really a dream come true. I’ve never been in a Super Bowl ad, and I sort of dreamed about it, but I never dreamed this high.”
Though Mr. Peanut himself wasn’t on hand to film the ad — “That would’ve been the biggest highlight for sure,” said Rodriguez, who worked with a stand-in who was later covered up with a little camera magic — the process was “efficient and relaxed,” the 43-year-old said. “I had a great time. I wasn’t nervous at all filming.”
He is, however, a bit nervous to watch at home with friends and family on Feb. 3.
“Knowing you’ll have 100-plus million people watching will be pretty intense,” he shared. “And I think you can guarantee my daughters will be teasing Daddy,” he added of Ella, 10, and Natasha, 14. “This one has a lot to tease me about.”
Perhaps more judgmental is the Twitterverse, though Rodriguez isn’t too worried about any harsh words from critics. “I make fun of myself so much and I like being made fun of,” he said.

Revealing he got a little advice from his girlfriend of two years, Jennifer Lopez — “She always tells me to be myself and have fun, which she’s a master at,” he shared — he said more than anything, he’s excited to see his ad air and get into the big game.
“I don’t have a particular team I root for, I’m a fan of the game, the league,” he said. “But Tom Brady is a buddy, and I always cheer for him.”
