Vitamin Magnate Sent to Prison for Ordering Hit on Ex-Model Wife
The former CEO of a health supplement company was sentenced Wednesday to nine years in prison for soliciting a hit on his estranged wife, sexy model Monica Olsen.
During the sentencing hearing in Los Angeles, Olsen, 32, told the judge that, behind his charming facade, Dino Guglielmelli, 53, had a “dark side” and would become erratic, delusional and destructive.
“He had everything one can dream of: beautiful children, a home, a loyal wife. But time and time again, he seeks to destroy it all,” Olsen said in a victim impact statement to the court.
“For Mr. Guglielmelli, life is a just a game. He views people as objects to be controlled, manipulated and disposed of at his will,” she added. “In this case, it was me. He told me, ‘I only think in black and white. You are gray and need to be expelled.’ ”
Guglielmelli’s company, Creation’s Garden, once posted annual sales of $50 million, but declared bankruptcy Nov. 20 after Guglielmelli’s arrest the previous month.
The arrest followed a business lunch where Guglielmelli ordered the hit. According to evidence presented in court, Guglielmelli, during a lunch of mint chicken and noodles, offered friend and business associate Richard Fuhrmann $80,000 – not knowing that Fuhrmann was recording their conversation.
During the conversation, Fuhrmann asked how the couple’s two daughters were going to be if their mother died. Guglielmelli said, “They’re totally fine. All they need is their dad.”
Guglielmelli’s attorney, Anthony Brooklier, told PEOPLE earlier this year that he intended to show during trial that Fuhrmann was a false friend who set Guglielmelli up for his own financial gain, and that Guglielmelli did not really want his wife murdered.
However, with the threat of life in prison hanging over his head, Guglielmelli decided to avoid trial and take a deal. He pleaded no contest last Friday to attempted murder.
Olsen, whose legal name is Monica Adreny, worked in New York and Milan for top designers including Helmut Lang, Thierry Mugler, Michael Kors and BCBG Max Azria.
