Martial Arts Instructor Arrested for Allegedly Knocking out 5-Year-Old Student
Student was allegedly grabbed by the ankle and thrown to the floor
A 21-year-old martial arts instructor has been arrested on felony child abuse charges after he allegedly threw a 5-year-old student and knocked him unconscious.
A statement from investigators, obtained by PEOPLE, alleges that Justin Patrick Branick of Nokesville, Virginia, lost his cool while leading a taekwondo class in nearby Bristow on Monday evening.
Detectives from Prince Charles’ Special Victims Unit were dispatched on Tuesday to the Tiger Martial Arts Academy.

“The investigation revealed that the accused, identified as an instructor at the business, grabbed the victim, a 5-year-old male juvenile of Bristow, by the ankle then threw him over his shoulders and onto the ground causing the victim to lose consciousness,” reads the police statement.
It is unclear what motivated the attack, but a police spokesman says detectives believe the the boy’s behavior angered the teacher.
Branick has yet to enter a plea to the charge, and was released on $5,000 bail.
