18-Year-Old Charged by Texas Police in Alleged Murder of Newborn Baby
Police have yet to disclose what killed the infant
Police in Texas have arrested a second person for the murder of a newborn baby found inside a home in Abilene earlier this week.
A statement from police released late Tuesday alleges that Amber Craker, 18, gave birth to the baby girl whose body was eventually recovered during a search sparked by the discovery of human tissue in one of the home’s drainage pipes.
Police have yet to disclose what killed the infant, but the statement on Craker’s arrest says she has been charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse.
Police were called Monday morning after Craker arrived at a nearby hospital seeking treatment for severe bleeding; medical officials determined Craker had recently given birth.

She remains in police custody on $300,000 bail and has yet to retain legal counsel, court officials tell PEOPLE.
Craker’s boyfriend, 22-year-old Damian Scott Cate, is also facing murder and tampering with evidence charges.
He was arrested Tuesday afternoon, and is also being held on $300,000 bail. Cate does not have a lawyer representing him at this point.
Officials say autopsy results are due back momentarily, and will provide more insight into the nature of the baby’s killing.
