Teenage Girl Charged in Pregnant Mom's Stabbing — Which Also Killed Her Unborn Baby

A 17-year-old girl has been charged with the November murder of a pregnant mother who was left bleeding on the street in California after she was stabbed multiple times, PEOPLE confirms.

The teen, whose name has not been released because she is a juvenile, was charged Thursday with two counts of murder in the deaths of 22-year-old Jasmine Preciado and her fetus. Preciado was fatally stabbed on Nov. 21 during a fight in Venice, California, according to authorities.

The teenage girl has denied the charges and is scheduled to return to juvenile court on Jan. 10, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The teen remains in custody. It was not immediately clear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney.

The teen turned herself in to the Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday. No other suspects have been arrested.

Preciado, also the mother of a 3-year-old daughter, was killed after an alleged altercation with the teen and two men outside a store near Pacific and Windward avenues, near the popular Venice Beach boardwalk.

Preciado was stabbed four times, Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter tells PEOPLE. “The stab wound in the neck is what killed her,” he says.

Security camera footage obtained by KCBS appears to capture the last moments of the young mother’s life: In the video, a scuffle seems to start near a dark SUV. A moment later, a woman runs in front of the SUV and turns, with what appears to be a knife in her left hand. She then jumps into the SUV with several others and drives off.

Officers were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m. that Monday and found the mortally injured Preciado on the curb being held by witnesses. She was taken to a local hospital where she died of her injuries. (Her family could not immediately be reached.)

A GoFundMe page was established to raise money for the young mother’s funeral. So far, nearly $4,000 has been raised.
