Teen Fugitive in Bonnie and Clyde-Type Crime Spree Pleads Not Guilty
Dalton Hayes is facing numerous charges after his two-week crime spree with girlfriend Cheyenne Phillips
Dalton Hayes, 18, who is now back in Kentucky, was arraigned Thursday afternoon, according to CBS News.
Hayes received a public defender and pleaded not guilty to statutory rape, criminal mischief, trespassing, theft and burglary.
He was crying when he entered the courtroom, according to WHAS11.
Hayes, along with his 13-year-old girlfriend, Cheyenne Phillips, sent police on a two-week chase from Kentucky through Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.
The judge set his bond at $250,000 cash. His next court appearance is on Jan. 29.
Phillips is expected to face charges in juvenile court, according to CBS.
Her mother, Sherry Peters, was also in court on Thursday.
She is accused of taking her daughter from her father’s house Jan. 3, when she did not have any custody or visitation rights to the child, according to an arrest warrant obtained by PEOPLE.
Peters pleaded not guilty to custodial interference.
