Destiny Garcia was formally charged as an adult late Monday
Police in New York City have identified the 15-year-old Brooklyn girl who has been formally charged with killing her mother and the mother’s boyfriend.
A statement from the New York Police Department obtained by PEOPLE alleges Destiny Garcia shot and stabbed her 39-year-old mother Rosie Sanchez and Sanchez’s 40-year-old boyfriend Anderson Nunez multiple times.
Both bodies were discovered on Sunday during what authorities characterized as “a wellness check.”
The statement does not indicate when the couple was killed.
A source with knowledge of the case tells PEOPLE Sanchez and Nunez’s remains were found several days after they were killed.

A motive for the killings was not detailed in the statement issued by police, who’ve charged Garcia as an adult with two counts of murder and another two for criminal weapons possession.
At least one of PEOPLE’s police sources claims the girl initially told detectives that Nunez had sexually and physically abused her – allegations she said her mother dismissed.
Garcia has not yet entered a plea to the charges against her, and it was unclear Tuesday whether the teen had legal representation.
