A college junior died in a shooting at Savannah State University on Thursday.

Christopher Starks died at a local hospital, the college said in a statement, NBC News reports.

A post on the university’s Facebook page Thursday night said that the Georgia campus was on lockdown “due to a shooting incident that occurred this evening at/near the Student Union.”

The lockdown was lifted just after midnight as the college newspaper, The Tiger’s Roar, reported that there was blood on the floor in the Student Union and police were spread out all over the campus, looking for a male suspect.

Student Ahia Gordon told NBC that she was eating in the Student Union when an unknown number of people “started fighting out of nowhere and then someone pulled out a gun and shot him.”

She and other students tended to the man, who was shot near his collarbone. “We was telling people to take their shirt off and put pressure on his wound,” Gordon said. “He was bleeding just sitting there.”
