Earl watched the Dateline NBC special on Avery with Access Hollywood‘s Stephanie Bauer, and aired his concerns in his first-ever interview. “If somebody’s gonna slice somebody’s throat, you know, there’s gonna be blood – something,” Earl said. “And they say they cleaned up in the garage, but there’s all dust and everything all over everything. Along with questioning the stated evidence, Earl offered his account of the night Teresa Halbach was murdered, revealing alarming new details. “We drove right through [where] that car was supposed to be,” he added. “It wasn’t there that night of the 31st. We were rabbit hunting.” Earl also told Access Hollywood that he mentioned the information about the car, but no one ever did anything about it. The popular docu-series has cast doubt on Avery’s conviction for the 2005 murder of Halbach, prompting fans to call for the reopening of the case in an effort to exonerate Avery. Earlier this month, Avery hired a new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, who has vowed to set him free, with the help of new advancements in forensic testing; and the Avery family is happy with the job she’s done so far. Avery’s niece, Brittany, told Access Hollywood, “She was very determined to do what needs to be done right now.”
