Richie Sambora‘s ex girlfriend and business partner has filed a police report claiming the Bon Jovi guitarist assaulted her and threatened to kill her – allegations the rocker’s rep denies.

A source close to Nikki Lund tells PEOPLE the fashion designer filed a report in Calabasas, California, this week after Sambora, 55, called her and allegedly threatened to make her “disappear.”

“She’s sick of living in fear,” says the source.

Lt. Jennifer Seetoo with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed a criminal threat report was filed Wednesday, but declined to name the parties involved.

“The incident is under investigation,” she told PEOPLE. “The victim didn’t come to the station. It was a call for service … We do have a person of interest, but we are not saying who it is. The detective just got the case this morning.”

The duo founded the Nikki Rich clothing line together and have been dating on-and-off for a decade, although the Lund source says they have been split for the past two years and seeing other people.

The source says tensions between the couple have escalated this year.

“He’s been physically abusive to her and hit her in the chest at a meeting [in January],” the source said. “This left her bruised and shaken up.”

“After this, he re-Tweeted something about Nikki being a nobody and a drug addict, and then started calling her cell and threatening her saying, ‘I will make you disappear. I have millions of dollars and I can make people disappear – you are nothing,’ ” the source continued.

“Nikki was in pieces and very scared,” the source added. “She has had extra security measures in her house and hasn’t been able to sleep. She taped his threatening phone calls and waited until he was in Bora Bora to file a police report.”

Sambora’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE that the rocker is in Bora Bora with ex-wife Heather Locklear and their teenage daughter, Ava, and strongly denies the charges against his client, dismissing them as “contradictory, press-seeking, false allegations.”

“This is a cluster of fabricated lies in retaliation for Mr Sambora’s decision to cease further funding of the unprofitable partnership, plain and simple,” said the rep, adding that the pair have not dated for six years.

The rep said their fashion line is losing money and the filing is an attempt to get more money from Sambora.

“She filed a cluster of lies 13 days later in retaliation for his no longer funding this unprofitable partnership,” said the rep..

However, the source close to Lund denies that was her motivation.

“This isn’t about money. Nikki just wants to be safe and felt she had no option but to go to the police.”
