British rocker Pete Doherty avoided jail Friday for his most recent drug and driving offenses – getting instead a suspended sentence, a fine and a guarded vote of confidence from a judge in London.

Doherty, 28, received a four-month suspended term, was fined close to $1,000, was placed under court supervision for 18 months and given a 12-month drug treatment order, the Associated Press reports.

He had pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis, and various driving infractions.

Doherty, the ex-boyfriend of Kate Moss, could have faced jail time, but Judge Davinder Lachlar was satisfied with positive reports from his drug rehab supervisors – reports which allowed Doherty to be released from a separate drug-treatment order earlier this week.

“You have made strides and I hope you will continue in doing so. I would hate to see you going backwards,” Lachhar told Doherty on Friday.
