The woman told cops she had drunk eight beers that morning

An Ohio woman who allegedly beat her husband unconscious with a baseball bat told police she was angry with him for not getting her a Valentine’s Day gift, PEOPLE confirms.

Sheriff’s deputies in Washington County, Ohio, were called to the home of John and Kimberly Hammond Sunday morning by the couple’s teenaged child, who said they were fighting.

John, 46, allegedly told police that Kimberly, also 46, had scratched his face and then knocked him unconscious by striking him with a baseball bat. John said that when he came to, Kimberly kicked him in the ribs, police say.

According to police, Kimberly admitted to them that she had drunk eight beers that morning after watching a marathon of The Walking Dead the night before. According to the police report, Kimberly “said she was upset because it’s Valentine’s Day and she did not get anything.”

According to a police call report obtained by PEOPLE, the couple’s son “advised [police] that his mom and been drinking and gets mad easily.”

Kimberly was arrested for felonious assault and domestic violence. In jail, Kimberly’s blood alcohol tested .221, police say.

John refused to go to the hospital, according to the call report.

Police say Kimberly posted bail and was released on Monday. It is unknown whether she has retained an attorney or entered a plea.
